Skateboarder Waters captures 2014 Wild West title
Hailey skateboarder Jed Waters, 12, put up some mighty impressive runs Saturday at Jackson Hole, Wyo. and brought home the overall season championship of the second annual Wild West Skateboard Contest Series (WWSCS). Before nearly 300 spectators in a high-energy competition, Waters won the Boys’ 12-and-under Street competition and finished the WWSCS series with three separate championships—overall Street champion, overall Bowls champion and overall Series champion.
The Wood River Middle School seventh-grade student is a son of Lamar and Karen Waters of Hailey. He won $650 for his overall titles and Saturday’s Street title, in addition to a hand-painted skateboard that went with his season title. His father, Lamar Waters said, “Jed said it was the best competition he’d ever been in. And he called it the highlight of his skating career.” One of Waters’ dazzling tricks was a McTwist with one-and-a-half spins which he landed back into the bowl and finished with a back flip into transition, his father said.
